Reducing Sodium for Better Health
Simplot is pleased to report a significant reduction in the salt content of our Leggo’s pasta sauce products. Recognising the significant health benefits for consumers in reducing sodium intake, Simplot joined the government led food and health initiative in 2011. Over the course of several years we have made small incremental changes to reduce sodium levels without impacting taste. Kim Tikellis, Simplot's Health and Nutrition manager said sodium reduction is one factor contributing to our continued efforts to improve the health profile of our Simplot portfolio of products. In collaboration with the Australian Government’s Food and Health Dialogue an outstanding result has been achieved.
“We are proud to report that 29 tonnes of salt has been removed from our Leggo’s pasta sauce range as a direct result of this initiative. This translates to a 15% reduction in sodium across 35 products in the Leggo’s range”
“What’s more remarkable is that in doing so, we have not compromised on taste – our point of difference which makes us stand out from competitors - proving that healthy can also be tasty” Ms Tikellis said.
