Although Simplot, took over the Echuca site in 1995, the site and the brands that consumers love and trust have been around for far longer. The Echuca site harks back to 1978 when it was originally owned by Plumrose, who commenced operating it as a tomato paste plant, which is still a core part of our operations. However, today the site also produces products under our Leggo’s, Edgell, Chicken Tonight, Raguletto and Harvest brands.

Since 1995, we have continued to invest in this 8 hectare site. This has included commissioning major equipment upgrades of our canning and glass lines, installation of our beetroot line, capital upgrade to our sachet line, and our cook room.

The site employs over 150 people.

Processes up to 15,000 tonnes of tomato paste each year
Processes 8,000 tonnes of beetroot each year
Five unique packaging lines (glass jars, canning, plastic squeeze bottles, foil sachet and aseptic filling)

Leggo’s, a Brand Steeped in Local History

In 1882, at the age of 13, Henry Leggo took a job with a local grocer in Bendigo. Outside of work, he also sold his mother's own bottled tomato sauce and pickles direct to the hungry miners in the goldfields. With an appetite for hard work, six years later Henry bought the grocery business and began producing vinegar, sauces, and other grocery goods based on his mother's recipes. Well over 140 years later, the operations may have moved 100km down the road and the process may have evolved a "bit" but we are truly delighted to still be making Leggo’s products in Victoria.

1st Echuca Scouts is an organisation that seeks to enable and encourage youth to undertake personal development and leadership in a safe environment through activities such as hiking, camping, bushcraft and creative pursuits, amongst others.

Our Echuca site is supporting the group enabling them to purchase camping equipment so these young Scouts can experience the great outdoors.
