Simplot Australia is proud to have been rated as Australia’s healthiest food manufacturer for the second year running in The George Institute for Global Health’s latest FoodSwitch: State of the Food Supply Report, the largest annual appraisal of packaged food products available in Australia.

Now in its fifth year, the report uses data from in-store surveys collected from March to June 2023 as part of The George Institute’s FoodSwitch program.

Using a variety of metrics including the HSR nutrient profiling system, the Australian Dietary Guidelines’ classification of ‘Core’ and ‘Discretionary’ foods, and the NOVA classification of ultra-processed foods, The George Institute researchers assess over 30,000 packaged food and drinks being sold in supermarkets across Australia.

In this year’s report, Simplot was the manufacturer with the highest average HSR (4.1) and had the largest proportion (91.4%) of products classed as healthy (3.5 HSR or more).

At Simplot Australia we recognise the vital link between the foods we eat and overall health and wellbeing. That’s why we’re focused on improving the nutritional value of our products and increasing the overall average HSR of our total product portfolio.

Simplot Australia’s Nutrition Manager, Carena Gee said, “We’re encouraged by this result as it reflects the hard work we’ve been doing to improve the nutritional profile of our product portfolio. With 90% of Australian households owning a Simplot product, we believe it’s our responsibility to continually improve our product offerings to support the health and wellbeing of Australians.”

However, there’s still work to be done. Simplot will continue to work to improve the overall HSR of our product portfolio to support the best health outcomes for Australian consumers.
