Tomato origin
At Simplot, product integrity, provenance and responsible sourcing are fundamental to everything we do.
We refute the claims raised in the ABC Four Corners program regarding the origin of tomatoes used in certain Leggo’s products. We have reviewed the matters raised by the ABC and our records confirm the tomatoes used in products labelled “Australian-grown” are grown right here in Australia.
Our verification process traced the products through manufacturing records, ingredient inputs, supplier verification records and ultimately to the Australian paddocks where the tomatoes were grown.
We have also engaged directly with our supplier, who maintains sophisticated traceability capabilities and stands by its Australian-grown produce.
Notwithstanding our complete confidence in our supply chain, we have commissioned an independent audit to confirm our internal records and further assure our customers and stakeholders.
Our Australian grown and produced Leggo’s tomato paste is processed and packed in Echuca from tomatoes grown by farmers in Northern Victoria and Southern NSW close to our factory.
Leggo’s has a long history of proudly sourcing from and partnering with Australian farmers, helping to support a strong and sustainable Australian food industry. We believe in the importance of accurate product labelling, responsible sourcing, and respect for human rights across our business and supply chains.
Leggo’s has been trusted by Australian families for more than 100 years. We are proud to support Australian growers and local manufacturing and remain committed to maintaining our high standards of product quality, transparency and responsible sourcing.
