At Simplot, we don’t like seeing food to go waste. That’s why in 2021, we were proud to be the first company to sign up to the Australian Food Pact to tackle Australia’s $36.6 billion food waste challenge and are getting behind Food Waste Action Week 2023.
While we have taken action to ensure less than 1% of food processed at our operations goes to landfill, we know on an individual level there is still so much we can all do.
Food Waste Action Week is dedicated to showing how simple behaviours to reduce food waste at home can save time and money. And ultimately, reduce the impact of food waste on climate change.
This year’s rallying cry –Win Don’t Bin – is all about celebrating life’s little wins and how making the most of your food can save you time and money!
In Australia, 2.6 million tonnes of edible food is thrown away each year with households accounting for 32% of all food waste. We also know that at least a 30% reduction in household food waste is required to achieve the Australian Government’s goal of halving food waste by 2030 (FIAL, 2021).
This week why not consider how you can reduce food waste. Visit lovefoodhatewaste.com to get some simple hacks, tips and guidance to make the most of your food at home.
